last OS release that really impressed me was Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy. mostly because of my low-level expectations about linux-based desktop systems.
You should re-read "Hype and reality in the digital age" book which you've left in Kiev - it helps to keep expectations for hyped thing at reasonable level :)
